Our mission is to protect our democracies. We aim to achieve technological leadership, so that open societies can continue to make sovereign decisions and control their ethical standards.\n\nAs democracies, we believe we have a special responsibility to be thoughtful about the development and deployment of powerful technologies like AI. We take this responsibility seriously.\n\nWe are an ambitious and committed team of engineers, AI specialists and customer-facing programme managers. We are looking for mission-driven people to join our European teams – and apply their skills to solve the most complex and impactful problems. We embrace an open and transparent culture that welcomes healthy debates on the use of technology in defence, its benefits, and its ethical implications.\n\nThe role\n\nAs the Systems Engineer for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), you will own the end-to-end EMI/EMC engineering lifecycle for our airborne platforms, translating complex electromagnetic requirements into measurable subsystem\nspecifications and defining the comprehensive EMC Control Plan.\nYou will lead advanced electromagnetic modeling to optimize antenna placement and mitigate interference, working closely with cross functional teams and suppliers to manage complex architectures for grounding, shielding, and cable segregation.\n\nUltimately, your technical leadership will ensure our mission-critical defense platforms operate flawlessly in the most demanding and contested electromagnetic environments.\n\nThe day-to-day\n\n-\nOwn the end-to-end EMI/EMC engineering for an airborne platform, including the control plan, compliance roadmap, and integration strategy across all subsystems.\n\n-\nTranslate platform-level electromagnetic environment requirements (intra/inter-system, external RF, lightning, HIRF, ESD, EMP) into measurable subsystem-level EMI/EMC requirements and KPIs.\n\n-\nDefine and maintain the EMC Control Plan: grounding, bonding, shielding, filtering, and cable segregation philosophies.\n\n-\nPerform electromagnetic interference analysis across the platform: emissions/susceptibility, antenna-to-antenna coupling, co-site interference, and intermodulation between RF subsystems.\n\n-\nLead EM modeling and simulation: antenna placement, cable coupling, shielding effectiveness, lightning indirect effects, and HIRF using tools such as CST, FEKO, HFSS, or equivalent.\n\n-\nDefine zoning, bonding, and grounding architecture, including lightning protection and current return network for metallic and composite structures.\n\n-\nSupport antenna integration and placement trade studies, including pattern degradation and isolation budgets.\n\n-\nEstablish the EMI/EMC qualification and verification strategy against applicable standards (MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, DO-160, STANAG, or equivalent).\n\n-\nOwn the EMI/EMC test campaign: plans, procedures, chamber and on-platform testing, and corrective actions.\n\n-\nCoordinate cross-functional design decisions with airframe, avionics, EW, comms, propulsion, power, and mission computing; manage EM trade-offs.\n\n-\nOwn EMI/EMC-related interfaces and ICDs (grounding, shielding, filtering, connector specifications).\n\n-\nManage supplier technical governance for EMI/EMC compliance and non-conformance closure.\n\nYou should apply if you\n\n-\nHold a relevant degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.\n\n-\nHave proven experience in EMI/EMC engineering for airborne platforms with end-to-end ownership from requirements to certification.\n\n-\nHave a strong understanding of electromagnetic theory: transmission lines, antennas, wave propagation, shielding, grounding, and coupling mechanisms.\n\n-\nCan convert platform-level requirements into subsystem-level EMI/EMC specifications and verification criteria.\n\n-\nAre familiar with applicable standards and relevant NATO/STANAG or national military airworthiness frameworks.\n\n-\nHave hands-on experience with EM simulation tools for antenna placement, coupling, shielding effectiveness, HIRF, and lightning indirect effects analysis.\n\n-\nHave experience designing grounding, bonding, shielding, filtering, and cable segregation schemes for complex platforms, including composite structures.\n\n-\nHave defined and executed EMI/EMC test campaigns: chamber testing, on-platform ground tests, and flight test EMC verification, including instrumentation and data analysis.\n\n-\nAre comfortable leading cross-functional and supplier governance: reviewing EMC control plans, qualification evidence, ICDs, and driving issue closure with objective evidence.\n\nNote: We operate in an industry where women, as well as other minority groups, are systematically under-represented. We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all the listed qualifications; ability and impact cannot be summarised in a few bullet points.\n\nJoin Helsing and work with world-leading experts in their fields\n\n-\nHelsing’s work is important. You’ll be directly contributing to the protection of democratic countries while balancing both ethical and geopolitical concerns\n\n-\nThe work is unique. We operate in a domain that has highly unusual technical requirements and constraints, and where robustness, safety, and ethical considerations are vital. You will face unique Engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world\n\n-\nOur work frequently takes us right up to the state of the art in technical innovation, be it reinforcement learning, distributed systems, generative AI, or deployment infrastructure. The defence industry is entering the most exciting phase of the technological development curve. Advances in our field of world are not incremental: Helsing is part of, and often leading, historic leaps forward\n\n-\nIn our domain, success is a matter of order-of-magnitude improvements and novel capabilities. This means we take bets, aim high, and focus on big opportunities. Despite being a relatively young company, Helsing has already been selected for multiple significant government contracts\n\n-\nWe actively encourage healthy, proactive, and diverse debate internally about what we do and how we choose to do it. Teams and individual engineers are trusted (and encouraged) to practise responsible autonomy and critical thinking, and to focus on outcomes, not conformity. At Helsing you will have a say in how we (and you!) work, the opportunity to engage on what does and doesn’t work, and to take ownership of aspects of our culture that you care deeply about\n\nWhat we offer\n\n-\nCompetitive salary and VSOP options\n\n-\nRelocation support: up to €2,500 and 4 weeks temporary accommodation\n\n-\nLearning: €500/£450 yearly allowance\n\n-\nHealth & wellness: gym membership and mental health support (Nilo.health)\n\n-\nSocial: regularly company events and monthly social allowances\n\n-\nEnhanced parental leave: 22 weeks fully paid for primary caregivers & 6 weeks for secondary caregivers.\n\n-\nFamily support: 5 days of paid family emergency leave, 100% remote work option during pregnancy and phased return to work\n\nThese are the core benefits across all locations, there may be additional benefits in certain locations.\n\nHelsing is an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability or gender identity.
